A Brownfield is an abandoned or underused piece of industrial or commercial property; often environmentally contaminated. Many of the great industrial cities like Bridgeport are burdened with sites which present legal and environmental challenges. The Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative is designed to empower states, communities and other stakeholders to work together to assess, clean up and sustainably reuse Brownfields.
